DESCRIPTION
Rhododendron ‘Wine and Roses’ is a bushy evergreen shrub with dark green leaves whose undersides are a rich wine-red. In mid to late spring, clusters of funnel-shaped flowers open bright rose-pink to red-pink, sometimes softening toward paler pink as they age. The floral trusses sit above the foliage and are attractive to bees and other pollinators.
This hybrid has become valued as a foliage and flower shrub for temperate gardens. It forms a rounded, medium-sized mound over time, and its combination of colorful leaf undersides and generous spring bloom makes it well suited to banks, slopes, raised beds, and mixed borders where the foliage can be viewed from below as well as above.
